Search for missing 3-year-old NC girl to resume Tuesday

    Published: August 16, 2016, 6:52 am

BESSEMER CITY, NC (WBTV) – A search for a missing 3-year-old Gaston County girl that was underway for much Monday will resume Tuesday morning.

Gaston County 911 got the call just after 3:30 p.m. that Jordan Ann Dumont was missing. Crews then began looking for her on and around the 1900 block of Bess Town Road, near Ruthaven Drive, in Bessemer City.

Officials suspended the search Monday night, and are set to resume again at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Neighbors in the area used flashlights to continue searching for the girl through the night.

Officials said Dumont’s caretaker, identified only as her mother’s boyfriend, had last seen the young girl around 1 p.m., and notified authorities when he realized she was missing.

Police said they believe the boyfriend was asleep, and that Dumont was one of two children in the home. The other child is accounted for.

Dumont is described as a white female, 3’2″ tall with shoulder-length curly blonde hair and blue/green eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a long sleeve Mickey or Minnie Mouse shirt.

Multiple agencies and a police helicopter searched for Dumont until around 10:30 p.m. when the search was called off for the night. The search will resume first thing Tuesday morning.

Gaston County Police Chief Joseph Ramey updated the media throughout the night regarding the search.

“Considering the age of the child, I would have liked to have found something more concrete,” said Ramey at the end of the evening.

Dozens of locals also showed up at the search site wanting to help the police find the little girl.

Neighbors search overnight for missing Gaston County toddler

    by: Alexa Ashwell, Gina Esposito Updated:Aug 16, 2016 - 5:59 AM

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. - Gaston County emergency officials will resume their search Tuesday morning for a missing 3-year-old girl near Bessemer City.

Jordan Ann Dumont disappeared from a house on Bess Town Road around 1 p.m. Monday, officials said.

The mother's boyfriend put Jordan down for a nap at about that time, the boyfriend told police.

He told investigators that he then also took a nap and when he woke up around 3:30 p.m. he realized Jordan wasn't in the home and the front door was open.

Jordan is described as approximately 3 feet 2 inches tall with curly blonde, shoulder-length hair and blue/green eyes.

Officials said the girl has brown hair and was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a long sleeve Mickey or Minnie Mouse shirt.

At a Monday evening news conference, police said they would continue the search into the night using the Highway Patrol's helicopter equipped with a heat-sensing camera.

Police used four-wheelers and K9 units to comb nearby woods all afternoon before suspending their active ground search at about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
They will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Overnight, neighbors continued searching the woods around the child’s home, and told Channel 9 they were upset that police had stopped their search.

The police chief said that if the girl was in the immediate area, they would have found some trace of her. That's a reason they're looking into the possibility someone picked up the child.

They've checked area sex offenders and are talking with other family members, including Jordan's biological father who lives out of state.

They said they were not willing to stop until Jordan was found.

"It's very important to me to help these people find their kids because if it happened to mine I would want the same in return," said Charity Neal.

But police told Channel 9 that they have been looking for Jordan all night.

"We’ve been working through the night, contrary to popular belief," said Gaston County Police Chief Joseph Ramey. "We've been out here all night. In addition, we've been following up additional leads that weren't on this scene."

Ramey said that if the girl was in the immediate area, they would have found some trace of her. That's a reason they're looking into the possibility someone picked up the child.

They've checked area sex offenders and are talking with other family members, including Jordan's biological father who lives out of state.

No Amber Alert has been issued because there has been no sign of an abduction, police said.

I understand that LE can't issue an amber alert but they need to come up with some kind of alert on ALL missing children. That way people who haven't been on social media or watched the news knows to be on the lookout for a lost/missing child.

Police find remains believed to be missing Gaston County toddler

    Aug 16, 2016

    GASTONIA, N.C. (WTVD) --
Police announced late Tuesday morning that the remains of a child have been found near the home where a 3-year-old Gaston County girl was reported missing Monday afternoon.

"It is with deep regret that I'm announcing we have found the remains of what appear to be a toddler," said Gaston County Police Chief Joseph Ramey. "We are working to recover those remains and to make a positive identification."

WSOC reports the chief made the announcement around 11 a.m. and said police had found the remains in a wooded area near the home.

He said it was too early to say how long they had been in the woods.

Ramey said an extensive investigation was under way and that the FBI was headed to the scene to help.

    No arrests have been made.

Thank you mykittysmama for the updates. Yes, I agree with your earlier post, LE needs to come up with some kind of alert on ALL missing children.

Sickening and terrible news, but I knew this morning when I posted the 4th article this story wasn't going to have a good outcome.

Mother's boyfriend charged with death of Gaston County 3-year-old

    by: Alexa Ashwell, Gina Esposito, Ken Lemon - Updated:Aug 16, 2016 - 4:59 PM

    Press conference video included

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. - Police announced that the remains of a three-year-old girl were found Tuesday near the home where she was reported missing Monday afternoon.

The Gaston County district attorney said Jordan Ann Dumont's remains were partially concealed.

"It is with deep regret that I'm announcing we have found the remains of what appear to be a toddler," said Gaston County Police Chief Joseph Ramey. "We are working to recover those remains and to make a positive identification."

The chief made the announcement around 11 a.m. and said police had found the remains in a wooded area near the home.

Police charged the mother's boyfriend, William Joseph McCullen, with first-degree murder.

McCullen told Eyewitness News reporter Alexa Ashwell on Monday that the disappearance of the girl was “like a bad dream.”

The chief would not give information about the condition of the remains, how long they may have been there or if there were any wounds or injuries.

At a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Gaston police said they believe the toddler was dead before being put in the woods. They said they believe her remains had been there for 24 to 36 hours.

If the remains of the toddler had been in the wooded area for 24 to 36 hours, where was the mother? Was it before or after the mother went to work that she was put into the woods?

If the mother left for work early in the morning it would make sense that Jordan was murdered after that, put in the woods and the POS called LE at 3:00pm before mom got home.

Just terrible, I hope she wasn't molested too. Mothers need to learn that you can't have a bf when your children are young and especially not leave them with the bf. We keep seeing this time after time where the bf murders their child, wake up!

Police: Child killed, reported missing same day

    Aug 16, 2016

The man who reported 3-year-old Jordan Ann Dumont missing is now accused of killing her.

William Joseph McCullen, 25, was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday, a mere two hours after police found the remains of his girlfriend's daughter a few hundred yards from his Bess Town Road home.

"We have information that has led us to this ... that he is the cause of her death," Gaston County Police Chief Joe Ramey said.

He said investigators believe the child was killed Monday.

    snipped

Ramey says the girl was killed and then taken to a wooded area nearby. Jaylene Dumont, Jordan's mother and McCullen's girlfriend, told law enforcement she was at work while McCullen was supposed to watch Jordan and a 1-year-old child.

Jaylene Dumont has not been charged with a crime but hasn't yet been cleared of any wrongdoing, Ramey said.

"This is an ongoing investigation, and future charges may be forthcoming," Ramey said. "I don't know what that may be at this point."

The FBI's Evidence Response Team is assisting Gaston County police in the recovery of the body and the tests needed to positively identify the body, as well as determine Jordan's cause of death. Ramey would not elaborate on how investigators believe she died.

Police have been called to the home 49 times in the last three years, but it's not clear whether all or any of those calls concerned the Dumonts, the 1-year-old or McCullen. Nor is it clear what those calls involved or whether the Department of Health and Human Services was involved in Jordan's well-being.

    snipped

Her biological father is an Illinois resident and was notified of the body's discovery. Speaking briefly with media on Monday, McCullen described Jordan as his own and said he only wanted to find his daughter. He helped point reporters to Jaylene Dumont's Facebook page in an effort to find clearer images of the girl and aid in her discovery.

McMullen was taken into Gaston County Police headquarters for routine questioning Monday night, and family wasn't allowed to return to the home. Police searched for about six hours Monday before suspending the effort until Tuesday morning.

McCullen was sentenced to probation for possession of drug paraphernalia in 2011, but otherwise has a clean conviction record. He was denied bond pending a first appearance in court on Wednesday.

Murder Suspect Due in Gaston County Court

By Vanessa Leon - Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 09:03 AM EDT

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- The man who is charged with the murder of a 3-year-old child in Gaston County is set to be in court Wednesday afternoon.

Jordan Dumont was first reported missing on Monday. The search for her was called off Tuesday after human remains were found.

Police say they are waiting on autopsy results before officially identifying whether the remains are those of Dumont.

However, her mother's boyfriend, William McCullen, who was the one who first reported her missing, has been charged with first-degree murder and has a court hearing in Gaston County.

Court records show McCullen had been found guilty of possessing marijuana and driving while impaired in the past, and some drug-related charges were dismissed by the district attorney's office.

Police records show that officers have been to their Bess Town Road home at least 89 times since 2008.

OMG, he was even calling Jordan's name while he was on the phone with the dispatcher. What a POS knowing that he had murdered Jordan and playing up the 911 call to the hilt.
