Missing: Claudia Lisseth Sanchez Reyes, 21, Santa Ana, CA

A 21-year-old Santa Ana mother who has not been seen in nearly two weeks had in past filed a restraining order against her husband in an effort to protect herself and her young son, court documents revealed.

Claudia Lisseth Sanchez Reyes, who was last seen May 6, is the subject of a request for the public's help finding her from the Santa Ana Police Department. Since vanishing, she has not contacted any friends, family or coworkers, which police said was out of character for her.

Her husband, Eddy Reyes, told police she said she was going clubbing with friends on May 7.

In August 2014, Claudia Reyes requested a domestic violence restraining order against her husband, who is now 30. Around that time, she filed for divorce, but neighbors said the couple were living together at their Bush Street apartment when she disappeared.

Claudia Reyes requested that the restraining order be dismissed some three weeks after initially filing for it.

Since his wife disappeared, Eddy Reyes has obtained a criminal defense attorney, though police have not identified him as a suspect.

"It's a very scary situation for Mr. Reyes based on the history that the media has mentioned," his lawyer, Marlin G. Stapleton Jr., said.

A neighbor told KTLA Wednesday that he had heard the couple arguing and fighting in past, and police said they had been called to the apartment nine times, according to the Orange County Register.

But Stapleton said that those police calls occurred when there was a restraining order in place and his client called officers to facilitate visitation with their child, who is now 4.

After last talking to his wife May 7, Eddy Reyes waited till May 11 to report his wife missing on the advice of a different attorney, who gave that recommendation because Reyes had reported his wife missing another time earlier this year, Stapleton said.

In the August 2014 request for a restraining order, Claudia Reyes described her husband being physical with her, and at least once forced himself on her sexually. Her then-2-year-old son would wake up scared at night, she said.

Sadly I think we know how this will turn out, but still praying that Claudia will be found safe!

SANTA ANA – The attorney for a man whose 21-year-old wife has been missing since early May said his client is cooperating with investigators and there are logical reasons why he waited several days to report her disappearance and why he moved out of their apartment Sunday.

“It looks suspicious but it can be very easily explained,” said Marlin Stapleton, attorney for Eddy Reyes.

On Tuesday evening, authorities went to the Bush Terrace Apartments, 2015 N. Bush St., to speak with Reyes about his wife, Claudia Reyes, who was reported missing May 11, four days after he last spoke with her.

They noticed that the residence had been emptied and obtained a search warrant, police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

“It’s a missing persons case, but it’s a vacant apartment,” he said. “We have to ask the question, did some type of crime occur there?”

Apartment manager Octavio Plata said Eddy Reyes moved out of Apartment 107, which is located next to the rental office, on Sunday.

Okaris Velasquez, who lives adjacent to Reyes’ apartment, said she saw him and two other people moving furniture into an SUV around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

“They did it fast,” she said. “He was in a hurry to leave.”

She said her husband saw Reyes on the property Tuesday with plastic bags, possibly to clean the apartment.

“He knows based on the circumstances and information the media has brought out that it looks bad for him,” Stapleton said.

Eddy Reyes is not a suspect in wife’s disappearance, police said.

Stapleton said the couple had been in the midst of a divorce but recently reconciled.

Santa Ana police are trying to determine what happened to a 21-year-old mother who vanished without a trace nearly two weeks ago.

Police say Claudia Reyes was last seen with her husband Eddy on the evening of May 6 at their California apartment complex by their landlord. She did not show up for her shift at El Pollo Loco the following day.

"She didn't call in," Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna tells PEOPLE. "She just didn't show up for her day of work. That is why the people at El Pollo Loco thought it was odd because she always shows up and she flat out didn’t show up."

Bertagna says Claudia's family in El Salvador has also not heard from the mother of a four-year-old son since May 6.

"She communicated with her mom on a regular basis," says Bertagna. "That all stopped around the 6th. She didn't contact her family on Mother's Day. She didn’t see her son on Mother's Day so that seems odd as well."

Since she was last seen, Claudia Reyes has not used her credit cards, phone or social media.

"We have the whole team on this case," says Bertagna. "They have dropped their open cases and this is a priority. She is a priority missing for us just based on the circumstances."

Police say Reyes originally declined to speak to detectives but spoke to them with his attorney present on Wednesday.

"We gave them as much information as we possibly could find or think of to try and locate her," says Stapleton.

Stapleton says during the two-hour interview, they informed police that Claudia had two Facebook accounts.

"All we know is she had at least two Facebook accounts one of those accounts was secretive where he was not allowed to access it and has no idea what activity was taking place on that account," he says. "She had another Facebook account that was in her married name that he was able to look at. We provided that information to investigators and hopefully that is where they will find some answers."

The couple, who met in El Salvador while Eddy Reyes was on vacation, had been in the midst of a divorce but had recently reconciled, says Stapleton.
