International Missing Children's Day May 25

    International Missing Children's Day
May 25, 2016 in the World

International Missing Children's Day is celebrated on May 25, 2016. International Missing Children's Day is celebrated on May 25, the same day as the United States' National Missing Children's Day designated by Ronald Reagan in 1983.

A missing child is a child who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and fate is not known. A person may be missing due to their own decision, accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. (With material from: Wikipedia)

Parents of missing children aim for the number 1 spot with charity single on International Missing Children’s Day

    Written by Polly Balsom
    on Thursday, 19 May 2016.

The Missing People Choir, which is made up of families with missing loved ones have today released a charity single called ‘I Hope’, aiming to reach the number 1 spot on International Missing Children’s Day (25 May) and help Missing People reach more of the 140,000 children who go missing every year.

The Missing People Choir have been joined by music stars from across the decades including Chesney Hawkes, Rick Astley, Nik Kershaw, Carol Decker, Lesley Garrett, G4, Kerry Ellis, Jodie Prenger, Hayley Tamaddon, and Balsamo Deighton as well as Royal Mail’s Mail Voice Choir. The video features images of some of the UK’s missing children who have been missing for the longest time.

The single’s release has been timed to coincide with the Big Tweet for Missing Children on 25 May, which sees the charity Missing People tweet an appeal for a missing children every 30 minutes for 24 hours The purpose of the tweetathon is to ensure that appeals for missing children are seen by as many people as possible and “Team Big Tweet” are asked to share appeals simply by retweeting them on the day. Thanks to support from financial markets operator ICAP and celebrity supporters including Simon Cowell, JK Rowling and Stephen Fry, there were nearly 100,000 RTs of appeals and nineteen of the missing children featured in last year’s event have since been found.

    Why #RockOneSock?

Missing children’s issues do not affect every household, but we wanted to give the average person a chance to show that they stand in solidarity with missing children and their families. Our goal is to take something tangible and make a viral phenomenon that brings hope and inspiration to National Missing Children’s Day (May 25, 2016). During the month of May, we’re asking everyone to wear one sock, take a “footsie” (a picture or video of your feet with one sock) and post it to social media using the hashtag #RockOneSock. Continue to spread awareness and support by tagging friends to either do the #RockOneSock challenge or make a donation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Let it start a conversation with your friends and family!

    About National Missing Children's Day

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed May 25 as National Missing Children's Day. Each year, the Department of Justice (DOJ) commemorates Missing Children's Day with a ceremony honoring the heroic and exemplary efforts of agencies, organizations, and individuals to protect children.

Missing Children’s Day is dedicated to encouraging parents, guardians, caregivers, and others concerned with the well-being of children to make child safety a priority. It serves as a reminder to continue our efforts to reunite missing children with their families and an occasion to honor those dedicated to this noble cause.
