Australian man leaves NZ in tiny catamaran with daughter after custody dispute.

The hunt is on for an Australian man believed to have fled New Zealand on a tiny catamaran with his six-year-old daughter, en route to Australia.

On December 17 Alan Langdon, an experienced seaman, reportedly left Waikato’s Kawhia Harbour - on New Zealand's north island - and has not been seen or heard from since.
It is understood he has young daughter Que in tow.
Authorities have since ordered an extensive air, land and sea search for the 49-year-old whose bank accounts and phone records are also being investigated by police.
Border alerts have also been put in place, the NZ Herald reports.
Que’s mother, Ariane Wyler, split from Langdon last year and was believed to be in the middle of a heated custody dispute.

"The East Coast of Australia has many many places where he could be absorbed unnoticed for the next 10 or 15 years.
"[They could] easily disappear into Australia."
He no longer believed Mr Langdon's voyage was an innocent sailing trip but, he alleged, another attempt to take Que and elude the family court system.
Mr Chapman said there was a lot of conflicting information, including the direction the yacht was heading when it left.
He said it was not entirely unusual behaviour for Mr Langdon and he was confident of recovering Que, if the pair were found.
"Our biggest problem at the moment is working out where she is and if she's in the middle of the ocean heading for Australia, well we need to have some information to give the Australian authorities to get them interested enough to conduct a search."

Wherever they are, I hope they're safe. Very foolish thing to do even if he was an experienced seaman.

A New Zealand yachtsman and his six-year-old daughter, who went missing more than three weeks ago, have been found alive and well at Ulladulla, on the New South Wales south coast.
Alan Langdon left Kawhia Harbour on a small catamaran with his daughter on December 17.
But what could have been passed off as an innocent pre-Christmas sail took an odd turn when the girl's mother Ariane Wyler hired a child-recovery service in an attempt to locate the pair.
Ms Wyler is estranged from Mr Langdon. New Zealand Police on Wednesday confirmed the duo had arrived at the coastal town, about 225 kilometres south of Sydney, on Mr Langdon's catamaran.
Col Chapman, the Australian child recovery expert hired by Ms Wyler, said he had suspected Mr Langdon would attempt the near 2600km journey.
