Father of girl shot dead to remain behind bars as police probe tragedy.

The father of a Sydney girl who died from a gunshot wound to the neck will remain behind bars on firearms charges related to an unlicensed sawn-off shotgun.
The 43-year-old Arncliffe man faced Blacktown Local Court today charged with a number of firearm offences and contravening an apprehended violence order.
He did not apply for bail, with corrective services reportedly keeping a close eye on him over concerns for his mental health. He was seen visibly distraught in the back of a police van as officers escorted him from the scene.
The case has been adjourned to Friday.

I really doubt she'd be able to pull the trigger herself. There were the 3 brothers all under age 8 there as well, hard to say what really happened. Very sad, though.

ETA: and I can't help but wonder why the hell was there a sawed off shotgun in the home at all .

A traumatised father has broken down in court as he faces charges after the shooting death of his three-year-old daughter in her western Sydney home.
The 43-year-old Arncliffe man has been ordered to receive urgent psychiatric assessment after his defence lawyer told the court he hasn’t slept in the five days he has been in police custody since the shooting.
“I have never seen anyone in such a bad way in custody before. He is beside himself. He can’t think, he can’t talk,” barrister William Barber told reporters outside Blacktown Local Court today.
“The anguish that he exhibits is terrible.”
The distressed father sat sobbing and shaking in court, interrupting the magistrate several times during court proceedings.
“I am so sorry, your honour …. I am so sorry,” he said.
“Let me see my daughter one more time, please …”

The mother of a three-year-old girl shot dead in their Sydney home has blamed the child’s father, screaming that he shouldn’t have had a gun in the house.
“Not my baby girl, not my baby girl,” the mother screamed as she raced from the Lalor Park home into the street on Sunday night, neighbours recalled.
    “I hate you.”
It’s unclear how the girl sustained the single fatal gunshot wound, but police are investigating whether she accidentally fired the weapon herself.

Heartbreaking all the way around, IMO. I wonder if they will publicize how it happened if/when it's determined.
