    Queensland police probe whether hiker faked disappearance.

    Queensland police have take DNA samples and searched potential hideouts in the Gold Coast hinterland after a man claimed he survived in the wilderness for five nights on a packet of sultanas.
    In May, Brian Saunders, 58, emerged from Lamington National Park after he said he became lost while hiking.
    As part of an investigation into whether Mr Saunders faked his disappearance, police acting on a tip-off have taken DNA samples from two properties in the Gold Coast hinterland, [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] reports.

    They must really doubt his story to go to the trouble of outing him,I doubt they will make him repay anything tho.

    But doubts were immediately raised about his story given his reportedly good spirits, physical condition and eagerness to sell his story.

    Mr Saunders called police on the afternoon he became lost and was told to stay where he was.

    But police were unable to find him when they arrived at the location the next day and an extensive search involving police, the SES and a number of other volunteers ensued.

    Five days later the 58-year-old made his way to a farmhouse where he called emergency services.

    Ambulance officers described Mr Saunders as being in "very good spirits" when they arrived at the property.
