    Cyclone Joyce red alert issued for Broome to the Kimberley.

    Many West Australians are bracing for flash flooding and property damage as Tropical Cyclone Joyce intensifies off the state’s coast.
    A red alert has been issued for Broome to Bidyadanga in the Kimberley region, with the cyclone predicted to reach a Category 3 as it makes landfall today.
    "There is a threat to lives and homes. You are in danger and need to act immediately," Emergency WA warned people in the red alert area.
    Affected residents have been told to shelter in the most secure parts of their homes until authorities give an "all clear".

    They were so lucky it wasn't worse in Broome, hoping this cyclone spares the rest of the state:

    Broome has escaped serious damage as Tropical Cyclone Joyce continues to lash Western Australia's coastline.

    The category one system passed through the tourist town last night, packing wind gusts up to 90km/h and dumping almost 80mm of rain.

    The only visible damage was a fallen 15m palm tree outside the local court house.

    <snip>

    She is now forecast to cross the coast later today just east of remote station Wallal Downs.
