Man, woman sought in California woman’s killing, kidnapping of her 3 kids

GORMAN >> Authorities are seeking a man and woman suspected of killing a woman, kidnapping her three small children and leaving the state, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Joshua Robertson, 27, and Brittany Humphrey, 22, the sheriff’s department said in a statement Tuesday night.

They are suspected of killing Kimberly Harvill, whose body was discovered Sunday in brush along a remote road in northern LA County in the unincorporated Lebec area near Interstate 5.

Authorities believe the suspects also kidnapped Harvill’s three children, 2-year-old Joslynn Watkins, 3-year-old Brayden Watkins and 5-year-old Rylee Watkins.

They say the couple is expected to be in the victim’s 1999 green Ford Explorer SUV, which has California plates 7BEK024 that may have been swapped for temporary paper plates, stick-figure stickers of a family and a sticker that reads "R.I.P. Chad Watkins."

Robertson has a criminal history that includes a conviction on illegal weapons charges and is on probation, authorities said.

The department at first struggled to identify Harvill and asked the public for help, noting that she had the names "Rylee" and "Brayden" among her many tattoos.

    August 24, 2016 6:06 AM

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police sought the public’s help Wednesday to locate two suspects who are wanted in connection with the murder of a woman and possible kidnapping of her three young children in Lebec.

According to homicide detectives, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of the victim’s half-sister, [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
Robertson, 27, has a criminal history and is on probation. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

The pair is wanted for questioning in Kimberly Harvill’s death, detectives said.

Robertson and Humphrey, 22, are believed to have fled the state with Harvill’s three children — Ryle Watkins, 5, Brayden Watkins, 3, and Joslynn Watkins, 2 — in a green 1999 Ford Expedition, which may have a California license plate that reads “7BEK024” or paper plates.

The back of the vehicle has two stickers. One reads “R.I.P. Chad Watkins” and another that displays a six person family.

The children have been listed in law enforcement databases as “missing persons at risk.”

It remains unclear if the vehicle belonged to Harvill prior to her death.

Detectives described Robertson as a Caucasian man who has blonde hair, blue eyes, stands 6-foot-2 tall, weighs 170 pounds, and has tattoos on his right arm.

Humphrey is a Caucasian woman who has blonde hair, blue eyes, stands 5-foot-2 tall and weighs 120 pounds.

Authorities discovered Harvill’s body on Aug. 14 in brush located along Gorman Post Road in northern Los Angeles County.

The victim died as a result of trauma to her head, according to the coroner’s office.

The vehicle also has camouflage duct tape on the base of the car.

Kidnapping suspects believed to be outside California

    Updated 34 mins ago - 8/24/2016

GORMAN, Calif. (KABC) -- Two people suspected of kidnapping a murder victim's three children have likely fled California, officials said.

Los Angeles County sheriff's officials believe [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] traveled on Interstate 40 and passed through Arizona and New Mexico. But that's when their trail goes cold.

Investigators said Robertson and Humphrey have family connections in several states, including Nebraska, Kansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

An arrest warrant has been issued for both Robertson and Humphrey, who are suspects in the kidnapping of three children, as well as persons of interest in the murder of Kimberly Harvill, the kids' mother.

Sheriff's officials say Robertson and Humphrey allegedly kidnapped Joslynn Watkins, 2; Brayden Watkins, 3; and Rylee Watkins, 5 either before or after Harvill's death. Harvill is Humphrey's sister.

"The children are at risk. We consider them at risk, and that's why we reached out to law enforcement in all those states, and they're working hand-in-hand with our investigators and trying to locate the children," said LASD Lt. Joe Mendoza.

Investigators believe Robertson and Humphrey are traveling in Harvill's green 1999 Ford Expedition, which may have the California license plate 7BEK024, though authorities believe the plate may have since been replaced.

Couple wanted in California killing arrested in Colorado

    By AMANDA LEE MYERS

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Days after the body of a woman was found in the Los Angeles area, a couple suspected of killing her and kidnapping her three children have been arrested in Colorado.

Joshua Aaron Robertson, 27, and Brittany Humphrey, 22, were arrested Thursday without incident in Pueblo, about 40 miles south of Colorado Springs, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The couple was wanted in connection with the death of Humphrey's half-sister, Kimberly Harvill, whose body was found with multiple gunshot wounds along a road in a remote area of Los Angeles County on Aug. 14.

Investigators said the couple kidnapped Harvill's three young children, who were found safe Wednesday in a motel on the outskirts of Albuquerque.
Humphrey is Harvill's half-sister, and therefore the children's aunt.

Humphrey and Robertson, who authorities had said should be considered armed and dangerous, were found after officers from the Pueblo Police Department were conducting an unrelated investigation at a local motel where they were staying, the sheriff's department said.

Humphrey was found inside a car at the motel, while Robertson was found about two blocks away. A baby girl, who is Robertson's, was found unharmed and was in state custody.
