Amber Alert Day 4: Crews to start draining pond near missing NC boy’s home
    Updated 28 minutes ago

Investigators say they have the cooperation of a Scotland County landowner whose pond they want to drain in the search for a 4-year-old boy who has been missing for three days.

It was previously unclear if crews had already started draining the pond near the missing boy’s home in Laurinburg. Scotland County Sheriff Ralph E. Kersey expressed interest in the process Thursday evening.

Investigators believe they have discovered the body of 4-year-old Raul Gonzalez Johnson in a pond off Peabridge Road. The Scotland County Medical Examiner's Office must still confirm the identity and cause of death. Raul's family has been notified. Police ask that you be respectful during the process to recover the body and not go to the scene. The FBI's Evidence Response Team is in route to the scene. The Scotland County Sheriff's Office is grateful for the support from the community and searchers and would like to especially thank the Edge Grading company and the landowners for their help in this difficult situation.

    So sad.
Four year olds still have little fear and are curious. I can see him coming to an edge to look into the water and the edge giving way.
I'll be curious to know if he drowned or hypothermia caused his death.
I hate, hate to think someone might have drowned him. Could be, but for some reason my heart wants to believe it was a horrible accident.
Maybe the autopsy results will tell.

it would help to know how far away the pond is from where he took off? If we really know he took off.

Articles stated the pond was 800 yards away from where Raul lived. That would = less than 1/2 mile.

The press conference announcing he'd been found was heartbreaking.

    RIP, little Raul .

    Missing child death ruled accidental

    January 30. 2018

LAURINBURG – As the investigation into the death of Raul Gonzalez Johnson wrapped up early this week, the community began the process of grieving.

On Monday evening just over 100 people from Scotland and surrounding counties joined the family in celebrating the life and mourning the loss of Raul.

The four-year-old went missing on Jan. 24 while his grandfather was cooking lunch. His body was located in a pond 800 yards away from his home on Saturday.

“The cause of death is accidental drowning. There were no other signs of foul play. We are reviewing the results from the medical examiner,” said Detective Sgt. Jessica Sadovnikov who led the search for the little boy. “The DA’s office has requested a meeting with the sheriff’s office to review the case over the next few weeks.”
